This week in Coyote athletics 
VERMILLION, S.D.--South Dakota women's basketball plays in the second round of the Summit League Tournament, softball opens conference play at Western Illinois and men's golf plays in its first tournament of the spring this week in Coyote athletics.
Women's basketball (16-14) defeated North Dakota State 73-53 on Sunday in the first round of the Summit League Tournament. South Dakota used an 18-0 run in the second half to pull away for the victory. The Coyotes will play second-seeded IUPUI (20-10) at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the tournament semifinal.
Softball (16-10) will play its first Summit League game of the season Friday in Macomb, Ill., against the Western Illinois Leathernecks (5-7). Friday's doubleheader will start at 3 p.m. and there will be a single game Saturday at noon.
The Coyotes concluded the Rebel Spring Games with a 12-0 victory against Sacred Heart, improving their record to 9-3 at the tournament. Highlights of the tournament include five games of double-digit runs scored, pitcher Madison Frain's 15-strikeout performance against La Salle and third baseman Lindsey Boyd extending her hitting streak to 14 games and runs scored streak to 13 games.
Men's golf will play at the Sacramento State Invitational at the Valley Hi Country Club in Elk Grove, Calif. Play will begin Monday at 10:30 a.m. CST with a shotgun start and continues at the same time on Tuesday. The Coyotes are one of 15 teams participating in the three-round tournament. Women's tennis will play Bradley in Ames, Iowa, at noon. The `Yotes recently returned from a trip to Florida, where the team went 4-3 including a 5-2 victory over Robert Morris in its final match. USD won two of three doubles matches and four of six in singles play against the Colonials.
Women's golf has its second tournament of the spring at the Drake-Monterey Bay Tournament in Monterey, Calif., starting on Sunday. Led by junior Hailey Sheldahl (25-over-par) and Jordan Rearick (+27), the Coyotes finished 18th at the Northern Arizona Tournament on March 4.
Men's basketball recently concluded its seasons at the Summit League Tournament, where the team was defeated 54-53 by Western Illinois. Trevor Gruis had a double-double in the loss, while Juevol Myles scored a team-high 14 points.
