VERMILLION, S.D.—Football plays North Dakota State at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls, S.D., women’s soccer has road matches at North Dakota State and South Dakota State and swimming and diving makes its season debut at North Dakota this week in Coyote athletics.

South Dakota football (1-5, 0-3 MVFC) hosts a neutral site game with North Dakota State (5-1, 2-1 MVFC) at 6 p.m. Saturday. Directions to the stadium and parking information for the game can be found at GoYotes.com later this week. USD has lost its last three games by 13 points combined. Marcus Sims (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) added another 100-yard game on the ground Saturday against Missouri State, his third of the year. Terrance Terry (Barrington, Ill.) has been a revelation for the USD passing game, ranking third in the MVFC in catches per game (five) and yards per game (66).

North Dakota State is the defending FCS National Champion. The Bison lost their first game of the year against Indiana State at home Saturday.

Women’s soccer (1-11-3, 0-4-1 Summit League) heads north to take on rivals North Dakota State (Friday at 4 p.m.) and South Dakota State (Sunday at 1 p.m.). Head coach Mandy Green has been pleased with the resiliency and improvement of her team, one of the youngest in the nation. The Coyotes hold a 4-1 series advantage over the Jackrabbits.

North Dakota State (3-2-0, 6-8-0 Summit League) is undefeated at home this season while South Dakota State (3-9-2, 1-3-1 Summit League) is unbeaten in its last two matches.

Swimming and diving opens its 2012-13 campaign with a duel at North Dakota Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Hyslop Sports Center. South Dakota hosted its annual Red vs. White intrasquad meet Saturday in the DakotaDome. The Coyotes return 10 all-Summit League performers from a year ago (seven women, three men) and were picked to finish fourth (men) and fifth (women) in the conference this season.

Volleyball (8-13, 2-7 Summit League) returns to the road for matches against Oakland (Friday at 6 p.m.) and Fort Wayne (Saturday at 6 p.m.). It is the Coyotes’ second matchup with each team; USD fell to both teams in four sets in Vermillion. Senior outside hitter Kim Bulaga (Crystal Lake, Ill.) has been on fire lately, posting double-doubles in four of the last six matches. She has 70 kills during that stretch.

Oakland (12-9, 5-4 Summit League) features Meghan Bray, the league leader in kills per set (4.32). Fort Wayne (17-4, 7-2 Summit League) currently tops the Summit League. The Mastodons’ Megan Steenhuysen’s 12 assists per game are a Summit League-best.

Men’s and women’s golf are in Missouri this morning for separate tournaments. The men are competing in the Kansas City Bill Ross Invitational while the women are participating in the Payne Stewart Invitational in Springfield, Mo. Both meets teed off at 8:30 a.m. The first two rounds will be played today and the final round will start at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow.

Both men’s and women’s cross country teams won the Tim Young Invitational Saturday in Vermillion. Jeff Mettler (Eureka, S.D.) won his second race of the season in 24:52 and six other Coyotes finished in the top-eight in the 8k. Six women placed in the top-10 for the 5k, led by Amber Eickhorn’s (Wichita, Kan.) third-place finish.
