VERMILLION, S.D. – More than 600 pairs of gently used shoes were collected the past two weeks to be donated to the Native American Heritage Association (NAHA). The donated shoes were gathered as a part of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee's Share Your Sole shoe drive. This year's shoe drive effort doubled last year's donation total.
SAAC set up donation boxes around campus and collected shoes at several athletic events throughout the month. The shoes will be sent to Blackhawk, S.D., in the coming weeks to be delivered to NAHA.
David G. Myers founded the Native American Heritage Association in 1993. The non-profit organization dedicates itself to helping Native American families in need living on reservations across South Dakota and Wyoming. As NAHA receives donations of clothing, shoes, household and personal care items, they pack a tractor-trailer full. After the trailer is loaded, it is then driven to various reservations throughout South Dakota to deliver the donations.
