VERMILLION, S.D.—University of South Dakota's men's basketball team has planned a 10-day trip to Spain from Aug. 3-12. The Coyotes will visit Barcelona, San Sebastian, Vitoria, Trevino and Madrid during the trip. The team has also scheduled four exhibition games.
 
"We are excited and thankful to our administration for this opportunity to take a foreign tour to Spain," said USD head men's basketball coach Craig Smith. "Trips like this are a valuable time to build relationships and grow team chemistry. Our entire program is anxious to experience the Spanish culture while competing against professional teams from around the world."
 
The Coyotes plan to visit Sagrada Familia, a large Roman Catholic Church and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in Barcelona on day one in Spain, and visit FC Barcelona Stadium, Camp Nou, the largest stadium in Europe by capacity at nearly 100,000, on day three.
 
The team will enjoy time at the beach and to shop in San Sebastian on day five. A night at the Vitoria-Gasteiz Jazz Festival culminates day six. Day seven is highlighted by a scavenger hunt, "Amazing Race" style, and a viewing of Cathedral of Santa Maria de Vitoria.
 
The Coyotes have planned a guided tour of each city they visit. The team will play games Aug. 5 and Aug. 6 in Barcelona and Aug. 9 and Aug. 10 in Vitoria. They will spend the final day roaming the capital, Madrid, before returning to the States Aug. 12.
 
"This is a trip that will last a lifetime and the timing couldn't be better," said Smith. "Our team features seven newcomers and 10 players overall who are getting their first chance to compete as a Coyote. The additional practice time has been priceless."
