Tommy Vining has been named The Summit League Men's Golf Newcomer of the Year as voted on by the league's head coaches and announced Friday. Vining is the first recipient of the award in program history.
Vining, who competed a year ago at University of Minnesota, led all Summit newcomers with a 73.45 stroke average, which ranked fourth in the league. He earned first-team all-Summit League honors after finishing with a record of 576-262 (.687) and recording 13 rounds of par or better. He shot a 5-under par 66 at a tournament hosted by Washington State last fall, which tied for the Coyotes' best round of the season.
Oral Roberts' Cody Burrows was named Golfer of the Year after leading the league with a 72.43 scoring average and placing third at The Summit League Tournament. South Dakota State's Casey VanDamme was named Coach of the Year after leading the Jacks to their second straight Summit League Tournament title and NCAA Regional berth.
