    VERMILLION, S.D.--Senior linebacker Tyler Starr and sophomore quarterback Kevin Earl were among the award recipients at the 2013 University of South Dakota Football Awards Show held Saturday in the ballroom of the Muenster University Center.


    Western shuts down Coyotes in Macomb

    MACOMB, Ill.--Western Illinois running backs J.C. Baker and Nikko Watson combined to rush for 200 yards and a touchdown to lead the Leathernecks to a 24-10 win against South Dakota Saturday at Hanson Field. It was the Missouri Valley Football Conference opener for both teams.

    Started the first two games at wide receiver and played in nine games overall ... caught eight passes for 102 yards ... had three catches for 58 yards at Western Illinois (9/28) ... also tied for the team lead in special-teams tackles with eight ... named Beanie Cooper Special Teams Player of the Year (USD award) ... MVFC Honor Roll member.

    Earned a start at wide receiver at Missouri State (10/13) and played in nine of 11 games, mainly on special teams...had a special teams tackle at Northwestern (9/22) and at Missouri State.

    Saw action in nine games on special teams and as a reserve wide receiver...Had 13 total tackles with 11 solo stops, including a season-high four stops in the thirlling 30-17 win over then-No. 1 and defending FCS champion Eastern Washington (Sept. 10).

    Played in four games, including the final three of the season, as a reserve wide receiver...named USD's Scout Special Teams Player of the Week twice during the season...named USD's Scout Offensive Player of the Week once.

    Redshirted his first season in the USD program.

    Three-year starter for Coach Byron Pudwill...starting wide receiver as a sophomore, running back as a junior and quarterback as a senior...played defensive back...rushed for over 1,900 yards and 20 touchdowns and passed for 670 yards and five touchdowns in career...named to all-conference team twice...earned all-state honors as a senior...named to Argus Leader's Elite 45....played in North-South All-Star game...helped team to three state tournament appearances and 21-11 record...two-year starting point guard on basketball team....finished with 180 career assists...named to all-conference team as a senior...qualified for state track meet nine times, including second-place finish in pole vault as a senior.
