    Coyotes power past No. 23 Northern Arizona

    VERMILLION, S.D.--South Dakota rushed for 304 yards and intercepted three passes en route to a 28-21 win against No. 23 Northern Arizona Saturday on Hall of Fame Day at the DakotaDome.

    MISSOULA, Mont.--Fourth-ranked Montana scored touchdowns on three of its first four possessions out of halftime and forced three turnovers in a 28-20 win against South Dakota in front of a stadium-record 26,303 fans at Washington-Grizzly Stadium.

    Coyotes make it 12 straight home openers

    VERMILLION, S.D.--South Dakota running backs Trevor Bouma and Jasper Sanders each eclipsed 100 yards rushing and quarterback Ryan Saeger ran for two touchdowns in a 41-16 win against William Penn at the DakotaDome Saturday. The Coyotes (1-1) have won 12 consecutive home openers dating back to 2003.

    One of 38 Coyotes who played in all 11 games...earned a start against Northern Iowa (11/10)...named to the MVFC All-Newcomer Team...carried 81 times for 264 yards and three scores...caught 12 passes for 67 yards...finished third on the team in both rushing yards and's primary return man...averaged seven yards on nine punt returns...averaged 23 yards on 15 kickoff returns...ranked 45th nationally and fourth in the MVFC in kick return average...averaged 26 yards per kickoff return in MVFC play, good for second in the conference...had 50 yards rushing on eight carries vs. Illinois State (9/29)...caught three passes for 34 yards vs. Northwestern (9/22)...carried 12 times for 38 yards against Colgate, including a 7-yard touchdown run that broke a 14-14 tie (9/8)...had a 55-yard kickoff return against Western Illinois that preceded a three-play touchdown drive (10/6).

    Earned first-team all-conference honors and honorable mention all-America honors as he led the Grizzlies in rushing with 937 yards and a team-high 15 touchdowns as a sophomore...Played in all 12 games and averaged a team-high 78.1 yards...Also had three receptions for 24 yards...His 90 points scored ranked second on the team and he ranked second in total offense at 78.1 yards per game and second in all-purpose yards at 80.1 per contest...As a freshman at Butler, he had 48 carries for 506 yards with seven rushing touchdowns.

    Lettered all four years at Piper High School where he earned all-state honors as a quarterback and all-conference...Set every rushing record in school history except career touchdowns...In one game, he rushed for 401 yards and 30 carries with six total touchdowns...Also participated in basketball and track and was a two-time state champion in the 4 X 100m relay...Sanders also was recruited by Maryland and Tennessee-Martin among others.
